From Okura to EW
Simon made the transition from customer to EW. Read why he’s making a difference right here.
Simon worked at a five-star hotel for many years. Now he works as a district manager at EW Facility Services. It’s a move that might seem surprising, but to him, it makes perfect sense.
“I know the hotel industry from the inside out. That’s exactly why I know how important good cleaning is.”
From the guest experience to the fundamentals behind it
At Hotel Okura Amsterdam, Simon was responsible for the guest experience—from the front desk to housekeeping. “In a five-star hotel, it’s all about the details. Guests expect everything to be just right,” he says. There, he also saw how important cleaning is. “A room has to be clean. But the difference lies in the little things—going that extra mile.”
For example, a lens cloth next to a pair of glasses, or a bookmark next to a book. Small gestures that show you care about your guest.
The Move to EW
While working at the hotel, Simon had already been collaborating with EW. That struck him.
“EW looked beyond just cleaning. They really thought things through with us. I thought that was great.”
That collaboration ultimately led to his move. He now works as a regional manager and helps hotels deliver five-star quality.
Making a Difference with Your Team
Simon works closely with housekeeping teams at hotels. “You don’t always see the housekeeping staff, but their work is very important. Without them, there’s no good guest experience.” In large hotels, there are sometimes as many as 80 to 100 people working to keep everything clean and tidy.
Simon thinks it’s important for cleaning work to be recognized. “When a guest leaves a thank-you note for a coworker, you know this work matters.”
Growing in Your Career
According to Simon, EW offers plenty of opportunities for career growth.
“Whether you’re starting out as a housekeeper or already have experience, you can advance here.”
He himself draws on his experience both on the work floor and in the hotel every day.
“I know what it’s like to be responsible for guests. I bring that experience to my work.”
Working Together to Ensure Quality
For Simon, EW is about more than just cleaning.
“A hotel doesn’t just want a clean room. They want peace of mind. The confidence that everything is taken care of.”
And the team contributes to that every day.
“When everything is just right, guests may not realize it consciously. But they can feel it.”
